I am a doctoral researcher at the University of Oxford and am conducting a study relating to undergraduate physics students who may be choosing a career as a secondary school physics teacher in England.
There is a historic and ongoing shortage of secondary physics teachers in England negatively affecting the opportunity to study physics for a diverse range of children. Many policies have attempted to address this unsuccessfully. My research is a 3 year project to explore the experience of people who are choosing to be physics teachers through the lenses of identity and boundary crossing. The guiding research question is:
How do undergraduate physics students understand the process of becoming a physics teacher?
I am looking to recruit final year undergraduate physics student volunteers to participate in the 3 year longitudinal study and so I would be very grateful if you could pass on an invitation to participate to any relevant students. Participants can be studying UG physics anywhere but must intend to train to teach in England.
I have a poster and email messages I can provide with further information for this purpose – please contact me and I will send them through to you.
Thank you!
