Pre-registration is now open for the STEM Education Innovation by the Lake 2026, which will take place at the University of Cumbria, Ambleside, UK, from 5th–10th August 2026, sponsored by the IOP, RSC Higher Education Group, IUPAP and GIREP (Pre-registration form).
This intensive workshop aims to support academics, educators and researchers at any career level in developing the confidence and practical tools to design evidence-based teaching innovations and evaluate their effectiveness rigorously with tools of education research.
The workshop combines:
- Active Futures in STEM Education, focused on designing evidence-based innovation in STEM Education
- Qualitative and Quantitative Methods of STEM Education Research
- New Technologies in STEM Education, including GenAI and Extended Reality (XR/VR), presented by invited speakers
Participants will receive highly interactive and personalised training from internationally recognised instructors:
- Andrea Jiménez Dalmaroni (Cardiff University, UK)
- Geoffrey Potvin (Florida International University, USA)
- Ben Zwickl (Rochester Institute of Technology, USA)
The workshop is open to academics across STEM disciplines, and we particularly encourage applications from postdoctoral researchers and early-career academics. A limited number of bursaries (up to £200) will be available to support participants who would otherwise be unable to attend.
The registration fees (IOP/GIREP/RSC/IUPAP members: £330; concessions: £280; non-members: £400) include:
- Accommodation
- Workshop materials
- All workshop and conference activities
As the workshop is based on active-learning approaches and personalised mentoring, places are limited, and we strongly encourage early pre-registration.
